This movie is only an extension of a 1993 hit movie "Gaayam". Coming to present story, hero Durga of previous film settles down in Bangkok with a changed name as Ram (Jagapathi Babu). There he starts a restaurant, marries a girl named Vidya (Vimala Raman) (Kota Srinivasa Rao, who is in India) son Shankarnarayana (Kota Prasad) and is leading a peaceful life. One day some negro persons come to his restaurant in odd hours and start creating nuisance. In the ensuing melee, Durga fires at them with his revolver. This lead media elevating him in to a hero. Seeing video clipping of this event, Gurunarayana's follows Durga. Then again a clash erupts between them and Ram (Durga) shoots one adversary splitting blood on the face of his wife Vidya (Vimala Raman). With this Vidya starts despising Ram as a criminal and wants to get separated from him. She changes her mind when police officer Pandyan (Jeeva) tells her about Durga. Vidya asks Ram about his past. While Ram is narrating her about his past, Shankaranarayana's goons fire upon them and Ram's kid gets injured in the shoot-out. Now Durga starts retaliating. He leaves back his wife and son in Bangkok and comes to Hyderabad to settle the scores. He kills Gurunarayana's people who were responsible for attacking them in Bangkok. Then starts a gang-war between Gurunarayana and Durga. Durga makes Shankaranarayana suspect and kill his father Gurunrayana's lawyer. Later on Shankaranarayana also gets killed by Durga. This leads to a final showdown between Gurunarayana and Durga.... What Gurunarayana did and how Durga faced it .... what happens thereafter is the remaining story.
Analysis
It should be admitted that though the director of this film is a newcomer, has handled it very well. Had the second half of the film as good as first half, it would have been a still bigger hit. Second half is a bit dragging, which makes the movie a routine flick. The reason is its screenplay. The way its director made use of previous episode "Gaayam" and mixed with the new one, is appreciable. That is the reason Revathi, Shivakrishna, Kota, Tanikella Bharani and even Jagapathi Babu look appropriate to the time-frame the movie is set-in. Another important thing is that the movie depicts how in present day politics leaders are exploiting gullible students to commit suicides in the name of separate Telangana and how they are playing with innocent lives of people. Director made use of Gurunarayana's role aptly to drive his message to the students. If at least ten students realize this and change their attitude, the movie can be termed as successful.
TeluguOne Perspective
Acting: Jagapathi Babu, as he foretold, did better in this movie than in the old "Gaayam". Vimala Raman also has shown considerable maturity in acting. Kota Srinivasa Rao 'lived' the character, saying anything beyond this will be ridiculous. The scene in the movie where his son dies, unfortunately became a sort of rehearsal for him in his real life. Others also performed well in their respective roles.

Music: With Ilyaraja scored music, all the songs in the movie are melodious and pleasant to the ears. Re-recording too is good and elevates the mood.

Cinematography: Is very neat. Lighting scheme is good.

Dialogues: Opportune and to-the-point dialogues. Though few of them, but are too sharp.

Lyrics: All the songs are meaningful and contain contextual lyrics.

Editing: Good.

Choreography: The movie doesn't need any, because songs in the movie do not require hip-hop dancing.

Action: No make believe fights in this movie. The action choreography has been composed very natural looking and is good.

"Whether have seen old "Gaayam" or not, if you watch this one without any expectations, you can enjoy it. It's watchable."
