Indian IT giant Wipro to double staff in China

(China Knowledge) - Wipro Ltd, India's leading outsourcing service provider, on Sep. 14 said that it will increase its workforce in China from the current 600 to 1,000 by the end of 2011 to expand its outsourcing business, said Martha Bejar, president of the firm's global sales and operations.

At present, Wipro, which owns two service centers in Shanghai and Chengdu of Sichuan Province, currently has no plan to build service centers in other Chinese cities, said the company.

Reportedly, several Indian software enterprises are expanding their businesses in the Chinese IT market.

In 2008, 3i Infotech Ltd set up a joint venture in Chengdu for business process outsourcing or BPO and for software research and development. Indian software giant Infosys also has intention to set up branch in Chengdu.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China's revenue derived from outsourcing services in the software industry rose by 32.9% year on year to US$$1.49 billion in the first seven months of this year, and total revenue for the same industry totaled US$106 billion or RMB 723.1 billion.
